      SZI and Collision
      General
Hello everyone, First of all, thank you for this initiative and for setting up this platform. I would like to start a discussion on the links between SZI and collision, and eventually on the (indirect?) evidences that can build that link. In particular on the South China Sea / Philippine Sea plate and surrounding plate boundaries. I am myself working in the Taiwan/Philippine/Ryukyu areas mostly on tectonic problems primarily based on field geology and geochronology, and would like to compile, share and discuss some of the evidences found on those areas. I am still exploring the database to see the best way to contribute to avoid redundancies.

      Controlling factors for SZI
      SZI dynamics
For most SZI events in the SZI Database 1.0, a nearby subduction zone is common, while a nearby passive margin is not. ➥ Is dynamic (tectonic & mantle) forcing more important to start a new subduction zone than a major structural heterogeneity in the plate system?
